Pocke FAQ

Getting Started & Basics

What kind of app is Pocke?

It's an iPhone app for jotting down your spending in a flash so you notice when you're overdoing it. Instead of relying on automatic sync, you tap each expense in yourself—which keeps the feeling of "I actually spent that" fresh and helps you put the brakes on wasteful spending. Fast, a little fun, and genuinely aware of your money—that's the heart of it.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There's no email or social sign-up—just install it and start using it right away.

Is it free?

Yes, the core features are free to use. For those who want more, some premium features are available via a monthly/yearly subscription (in-app purchase). Please check the App Store listing for pricing and details.

Where is my data stored?

All of your recorded data is stored right on your iPhone. We never send it to our servers (the one exception is fetching exchange rates for currency conversion, but even then your recorded data is never sent). For details, see our Privacy Policy.

Which devices and OS versions are supported?

Pocke supports iPhones running iOS 16 or later. The Dynamic Island effect is available on supported models.

Is there an Android version?

There are no plans for an Android version at this time. Pocke is built to make the most of experiences you can only get on iPhone—widgets, the Dynamic Island, haptics, and tight integration with iOS. By leaning into Apple's own features, we aim to make an app that feels right at home on iPhone, as if it had always been there. That's exactly why we're choosing to focus on iPhone.

Recording

How do I record an expense?

From the "Record" tab, it's three steps: amount → category (circular dial) → payment method. A satisfying haptic tap at the end leaves you with the feeling that it's truly recorded.

How does the circular dial work?

You can spin it with your finger to choose, or just tap a category icon directly. Whichever you prefer.

I want to record even faster

With "Quick Record" on the home screen, you can log your go-to items (convenience store, café, and so on) with a single tap. You can customize which items appear in Settings.

I made a mistake / want to delete a record

Tap a record in the "History" tab to edit it. Swipe left to delete it.

Can I record income too?

Yes. Switch to "Income" on the record screen to log deposits like your salary.

Can I save the store name or location?

Yes. When you record an expense, you can enter and save a store name or location.

Payment Methods & Balances

Which payment methods are supported?

Cash, credit/debit cards, bank accounts, and gift cards are supported. You can track a balance for each one.

My balance doesn't match

Once you set a "starting balance" for each method, it's calculated automatically from your income and spending after that. Go to Settings → "Starting Balance" and adjust it to match your actual current balance.

Can I show card brand logos?

Yes. When you add a card, you can choose its brand—Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and so on—which makes cards easier to tell apart in the list.

How are gift card balances tracked?

Register the balance and it goes down automatically each time you use the card, so you can see how much is left at a glance.

Recurring Income & Subscriptions (Fixed Costs)

I want my monthly salary recorded automatically

Set it up under Settings → "Recurring Income" and it'll be recorded automatically on payday. Handy for things like a fixed monthly salary.

How do I manage subscriptions and rent?

Set them up under Settings → "Subscriptions & Fixed Costs" and they'll be recorded as expenses automatically on their billing date. Great for fixed costs you don't want to enter by hand every time.

I want to stop automatic recording

Turn off "Enabled" for any item and its automatic recording stops. You can toggle it back on anytime.

Currency & Overseas

Can I display amounts in dollars or euros?

Yes. Switch under Settings → "Currency" and your balances and history are displayed converted into that currency.

If I change the currency, do the amounts stay the same?

No, they're converted at the exchange rate. The data itself is stored in yen and only the display is converted, so your original amounts are never lost.

When are the conversion rates from?

The rate is locked in at the moment you switch currencies. It doesn't fluctuate automatically every day.

I want to record in foreign currency while traveling

Tap the currency symbol next to the amount on the record screen to pick a foreign currency, and it's converted to yen at that day's rate and saved. Once saved, that record's rate won't change.

What if the rate can't be fetched?

Fetching exchange rates requires an internet connection, so please check your connection. If a rate can't be fetched, foreign-currency records can't be saved (records in yen work without any connection).

Budget & Reports

I want to avoid overspending

Set a "Monthly Budget" in Settings and the home screen shows a progress bar plus a forecast like "At this pace, you'll be over by ◯◯ at month-end." You'll notice early and can put on the brakes.

What kind of analysis can I see?

In the "Reports" tab you can check spending by category, by payment method, and by day of the week, plus your top 5 most-visited places, your income-vs-spending balance, your savings rate, and more.

Can I change the reporting period?

You can switch between day, week, month, and year, and move to earlier or later periods.

Can I compare with the previous period?

Yes. It shows whether you've spent more or less compared to the previous period.

Splitting Bills

How do I split a bill?

From "Split" on the home screen, it's three steps: amount → how to split → settle up.

I just want to split quickly by number of people

Just choose the number of people in "Split by headcount" mode. Any remainder is handled automatically.

I want different amounts for each member

In "Split by member," you can choose how to divide it: equally, by set amounts, by ratio, or by shares.

Can I record who paid (who covered it)?

Yes. It shows who covered the bill and the settlement (who pays whom and how much).

I want to track who's paid me back

Open the split's history, tap each member, and mark them as "settled." You can also leave a quick note.

Do I have to add members every time?

One-off members are fine. Turn on "Use again next time" to save them, so from then on you just pick them from the list.

Travel Mode

I want to group just my trip expenses

Create a trip under "Travel" and turn it on, and records during that period are linked to the trip so you can see a total for each trip. It lets you keep travel separate from your everyday finances.

Widgets & Effects

Can I show my balance on the home screen?

Press and hold the home screen → tap "+" in the top left → choose "Pocke" to add it (Small / Medium). Lock screen widgets are supported too.

My widget isn't updating

Opening the app once refreshes it to the latest state. Due to how iOS works, widgets can take a little while to update.

What's the animation when I record something?

It's the Dynamic Island effect—the amount you recorded appears as if it's being drawn in. You can also turn it off in Settings.

The vibration is too strong / too weak

You can adjust it under Settings → "Vibration Strength." You can also turn it off entirely.

Achievements & Badges

What are badges?

They're awards you earn for recording streaks and milestones. You can view them from "Streak" on the home screen. They give you a little motivation to keep going.

How is a streak counted?

When you record at least once a day on consecutive days, those days are counted as your streak.

Data & Privacy

Will my data carry over when I get a new phone?

If you restore a new device from an iCloud backup, your Pocke data carries over too (provided iCloud Backup is enabled).

Does it connect to my bank accounts or credit cards?

No. Pocke deliberately doesn't link to financial institutions. You manage bank accounts and cards manually, as "payment methods." We don't import automatically because typing things in yourself makes you aware that "I just spent that," which helps you rein in overspending. There's no need to enter account details or card numbers.

Are there any ads?

No. Pocke shows no ads at all, and it doesn't track your usage either.

Do I need an internet connection?

Generally, no. Recording and balance calculations all happen entirely on your device. The one exception is fetching exchange rates for overseas use and currency conversion. Even then, your recorded data is never sent.

Troubleshooting

My balance is going negative

A missing starting balance is the likely cause. Go to Settings → "Starting Balance" and review it to match your actual current balance.
